How to make a 3D name keychain
- Type a name. Add a second line if you like, such as a year or a class.
- Pick a font, letter size, preview colours and ring position.
- Rotate the 3D preview to check the result. Open the advanced options to change thickness, base border, ring style or letter spacing.
- Download the 3MF for Bambu Studio (two colours, ready to go) or the STL for other slicers.
Two-colour printing in Bambu Studio
- Open the 3MF. The keychain object has two parts: Base on filament 1 and Text on filament 2.
- Make sure the Filament panel has at least two filaments (sync your AMS or add one with the + button), then set their colours. The Text part already uses filament 2; change it in the object list if you want another.
- Slice and print with the base flat on the plate, without supports. The colour changes only once, at the first text layer, so very little filament is purged.
Tips for a clean print
- Bold rounded fonts such as Fredoka, Baloo 2 or Titan One are the safest for small text. Script fonts work best with letters of at least 15 mm.
- A base border of 2 to 4 mm gives a clear coloured outline around the letters.
- For a metal split ring, a 5 mm hole with a 10 mm outer diameter is strong enough. Increase the outer diameter if the keychain gets pulled a lot.
- If you see the thin strokes warning, increase the letter size or thicken the letters slightly, for example by 0.2 mm.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Open the .3mf in Bambu Studio (File, Import, or drag it into the window). The keychain appears as one object with two parts: Base on filament 1 and Text on filament 2. If the Filament panel lists only one filament, add a second with the + button or sync your AMS, then slice as usual. OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer open the file too.
Yes, with a manual filament change. After slicing, move the layer slider to the first text layer (just above the base thickness) and add a filament change there. The printer pauses so you can swap filament. For a single colour, use the same filament for Base and Text.
The defaults are ready to print with a 0.4 mm nozzle: 20 mm letters, a 3 mm base, 2 mm raised text, a 3 mm base border and a 5 mm keyring hole. The total length is usually 50 to 90 mm, depending on the name and font.
If letters or lines are too far apart, their base borders do not merge and the print comes out in several pieces. Widen the base border or the gap closing in the advanced options, tighten the letter spacing, or move the second line closer.
Yes. Characters the chosen font lacks automatically use your device's bold system font. If the strokes come out too thin to print, use Thicken letters or upload a bolder font of your own.
No. Everything, from drawing the letters to writing the 3MF and STL files, happens in your browser. Your settings, last name and uploaded font are stored only on your device so you do not have to set them again.
The built-in fonts use the SIL Open Font License or Apache 2.0, which put no restrictions on printed results, including selling them. If you use your own font, check its licence.
