How This Image Compressor Works
Each photo you add is redrawn on a hidden canvas in your browser, resized to the maximum dimension you chose, and re-encoded as a new file at a given quality. In "Target Size" mode the tool tries several quality levels in turn until it finds the file size closest to the target without going over.

Tips for Compressing Photos for Upload Forms
Read the size requirements first. Some forms limit both the file size and the pixel dimensions, not only the KB.
Use a target-size preset for quick results. The tool finds the right quality automatically, no trial and error.
Shoot ID photos in good light. A plain background and even light keep the photo clear even at a small file size.
JPEG is the most efficient format for ordinary photos. PNG suits images with text or sharp lines, such as logos and screenshots.

You can add JPG, PNG and WebP files. For the output you can keep the original format, or convert everything to JPEG or WebP, which are usually much smaller than PNG.
Choose the "Target Size" mode and pick "Under 200 KB" (or 100 KB, 500 KB, or your own value). The tool automatically tries several quality levels until the file lands just under the limit, so you do not have to fiddle with a quality slider.
Quality mode suits you when you already know the dimensions and quality percentage you want; the result follows those settings exactly. Target Size mode suits upload forms with a maximum file size (for example 200 KB), because the tool finds the right quality for you.
PNG uses lossless compression, so the quality slider does not apply to it. If your PNG is still large, choose JPEG or WebP as the output format for much stronger compression, especially for ordinary photos (not images with text or logos).
